For the Grandmas

Eliza is now three weeks old and so many changes have happened. She is growing every day. At her two week check up she weighed in at 9 lbs. 1 oz. and was 21 inches long. Her favorite thing, other than eating and sleeping, is snuggling. She is such a good baby and is really content with life.

One Week Older and Wiser Too!

I really meant to do this yesterday on Eliza's actual one week birthday, but found sleeping much higher on my list of priorities.

This past week has been one of the best in my life. I love being a mom! Sure getting up in the middle of the night is a bit challenging, but I am doing it. I love Eliza's hiccups, sneezes, frowns, smiles, glares, stares and the really random noises she occasionally makes. She is so much fun to be around. I often find myself just watching her and getting nothing else done. I can't help it though. I love her too much.

We have had a fun week as well. First, Grandma Smith was here to help hold and care for Eliza. She also helped take care of me by making sure I was drinking enough water, making me take naps, and helping me cook in the kitchen. I love how we got to bond and be a little closer to each other during that time. Thank you, Mom, so much for making the effort to come all the way out to Iowa and be with us.

After Grandma Smith left, Grandma and Grandpa Klemetson came to town the next day. It has been nothing but a joy to have them here with us. I love watching how much they love and care for Eliza. They have been such a tremendous help to me and Ryan while being here. Not only are they such a help now, but they brought two weeks worth of meals already made up for me and Ryan for after they leave. Wow! Thank you so much. I really do appreciate the time and the effort it took to make those meals and then transport them all the way here. The food has been excellent. However, the company has been better.

Thank you Grandma Smith and Grandma and Grandpa Klemetson for making this week such a special one.

As an accountant, I like numbers. I like numbers mostly because, I think, they tell a very concise story. We are still very tired, and I do not think we will have time for a longer blog until much later. Until then, please enjoy the pictures and some of the numbers I thought were interesting. 20.5 inches long

Born at 7am in the 7th month 7 days past her due date.

24 hours in the hospital until delivery

19 hours and 26 minutes of labor

1 devoted doctor (Thank you to Dr. Naylor who spent the night at the hospital even after he was no longer on call)

5 different nurses (Thank you to Julie, Jennifer, Judy, Karin, and Michele)

Zero epidurals

3 very tired, but happy Klemetsons!

Baby's first birthday party

Today is the official due date for the birth. Just like her parents though, she is "late". I know that the due date is more just an educated guess and that she could official come two weeks before to two weeks after the due date. I am trying not to expect anything and just look forward to when she actually decides to come.

Yesterday Ryan's department decided to throw the baby an early birthday party. I joined Ryan for lunch then went upstairs for the party. (Okay, as much of a party that accountants can throw.) I got to meet all of Ryan's coworkers and receive congratualtions while enjoying a wonderful chocolate cake. We were most immpressed with the cake. There are no words to describe it, thus the picture below.

Fourth of July Weekend

I know that 4th of July weekend is not yet over (Ryan has work off tomorrow), but I figured I would write about the fun adventures we had yesterday.
As most of you know we are living in Davenport, Iowa for the summer while Ryan completes an internship with John Deere. As part of that we get to see the great Mississippi almost every day. In the middle of the Mississippi between Davenport and Moline, Illinois is an island named Rock Island. I know, very original. This island is unique in the fact that it is home to an active army base as well as being an arsenal. During the civil war the army would make bullets for the war. It was also a prison camp for the Union. It was great to tour the island and see the Confederate prison camp cemetery, National cemetery, and a park full of old military equipment. Ryan loved this park as he gawked at missiles and climbed on tanks!





This island also has one more unique characteristic. The bridge from Iowa to the island is one of 2 bridges in the world. One of it sections rotates on a pivit, 360 degrees in both directions in order to let barges through, and it has two railroad tracks above the road for cars. Ryan and I got to see a barge come through and see the bridge rotate. It was pretty impressive.

Anyway, Ryan and I had a great afternoon touring Rock Island and look forward to many more adventures.
